It's always nice to blow the cobwebs away after the 'Big Day', so how about a lovely walk in one of Essex's fabulous country parks, or a stroll along one of our wonderful beaches?  You might even pick up a shark's tooth or a fossil dating back to the Ice Age at The Naze!

Barleylands Farm, Museum & Craft Centre Billericay

'Breakfast with Santa' at Rye Karting and Colchester Zoo, or have lunch with with him at Warley Park!

Meet him on a train at Colne Valley Railway, Epping Ongar Railay, Audley End Miniature Railway and Mangapps Railway

Visit his Grottos at Weald Country Park, Cressing Temple and Intu Lakeside

There's An audience with Santa at Audley End House and Gardens, or meet him 1.3 miles out at sea at the end of Southend Pier! And last but not least, you can watch him arrive by air or vintage car at Stow Maries Aerodrome!

Things to do on New Year's Day


Visit the Museum of Power at Langford near Maldon, and watch the large pumping engine on steam, the Edwardian belt-driven workshop in operation and take the kids on the steam railway.

Fancy a sail down the River Blackwater on a wonderful Thames Sailing Barge? Topsail cruises will depart from Hythe Quay, Maldon - must be pre-booked.

Let the kids get some exercise and take them along to Intu Lakeside and join in the Frozen Skate-a-long - and you can do a bit of 'sales' shopping too whilst you're there! Or for the more energetic, visit the Lee Valley Athletic Centre or the brand new gym at Stoke by Nayland Hotel - burn off some of those calories gained at Christmas!

For those who like the outdoors, there will be a New Year's day guided walk at Highwoods Country Park in Colchester or Hylands Park in Chelmsford.
