The health and safety strategy of the Council is about getting the basics right, building on solid foundations to improve our systems and processes and most importantly to drive the right culture so that our staff feel safe at work and our customers are safe at our events.

Joining a small team of qualified professionals you need to be responsive and effective in delivery of an all round advisory service on health and safety legislation, policies, procedures, risk assessments, audits and safe working procedures to meet service requirements. You will be involved in assessing safe practices for some major city events and projects.

Working with departments, you will help them to improve health and safety by providing timely audits backed up by sound action plans. Analysing data from a variety of sources to identify areas of strength and weakness in our systems and process, you will have the opportunity to develop and revise policy and drive the appropriate cultural change. Involvement in the delivery of learning and development interventions on Health and Safety Topics and working with elected members, trade unions and other partners are all features of this varied role.

You will need to demonstrate that you are customer focused, having a good track record of continuous improvement and have shown initiative and innovation in resolving health and safety related issues. Building good relationships with service managers and providers is key to success in this important role.

It is essential that you are professionally qualified, Health and Safety NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, with evidence of continuing professional development and/or membership of professional body, i.e. IOSH (minimum TechSP demonstrable evidence of working towards CMIOSH or IIRSM (minimum MIIRSM) and other memberships as appropriate.
