Confused and Tired

Your weekend conversation covered:

Apple has been ordered to help the FBI unlock iPhone's to catch bad guys e.g. The San Bernardino shooters - aka husband and wife who shot and killed 14 in California last December.  For Apple, even if this system is only meant to be used for a single iPhone, it's too risky and if the software got into the wrong hands then no iPhone would be safe. Here’s the damning letter they printed

Apple is just as unhappy with the UK government - they are also telling Apple to get rid of its protective features (think encryption) in the name of national security. We’re making a whole documentary to find that out - and we need your support (MONEY) to make it happen. Our crowdfunding jumped from basically nothing to over £2,000 this week, but we need another £10,000 NOW - without it we literally can’t finish it. Show your love and donate here.

Two Big Grammy Moments You Should Know About

Kendrick Lamar, whose single Alright is an anthem for Black Lives Matter activists, gave an unapologetic performance at the Grammys. He criticised the treatment of black men in the US prison system and freestyled about Trayvon Martin’s death. Some, however, described his performance as “racist.” This video from AJ+ explains.

Taylor Swift became the first woman ever to twice win a Grammy for Best Album. Her acceptance speech to young women gave us tingles, and some have interpreted it as a direct put down on Kanye West, whose lyrics claim he “made that bitch famous.”

The EU - 5 things David Cameron wants

Cameron in Need

By the end of today Britain’s EU referendum might have started for realsies. Why? Because Cameron will have (fingers crossed for him) landed a deal on what would change for Britain if the public voted to remain in the European Union - like, how the EU would change to make Britain happier. With a deal in place we will actually know what package we’re voting for when we tick ‘in’ or ‘out’ on the referendum ballot paper. That means the campaigning games can really begin. May the odds be ever in your favour.

So, what does Cameron want to get from this deal? We’ve decoded it all right here.

World Powers Say More Totally Confusing Stuff about Syria

Turkey, and others, have accused Russia of committing war crimes in Syria, after at least 4 hospitals and a school were bombed in areas held by anti-government rebels, killing around 50 people. Targeting civilians and medical facilities is illegal in war. A member of medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres said either Syria or Russia were responsible for these bombings. But Russia says the only proof they accept will come from the Syrian authorities - and their evidence “shows the opposite.”

This week, we’ve stayed on top of things with this review of media reporting from Syria, from The Listening Post.
