Dear Blue,

Over the past 35 years, PETA's work has spared millions of animals misery and death in the animal-experimentation industry, the skins trade, and the meat, egg, and dairy industries.

But now, these industries—which are under fire and unable to defend their horrific cruelty to animals—are going after PETA with everything they've got.

Please help PETA overcome our opponents' efforts by making a special gift of just $5 or more online.

We've seen how the industries that depend on animal exploitation for their profits will go to any lengths to stop PETA's innovative and vital work for animals. These billion-dollar corporations know that nothing is worse for their businesses than having PETA expose their barbaric practices.

With the help of powerful hired lobbyists, our opponents are using every trick in the book to allow themselves to continue to torment animals. While the names of some of these lobbyist groups may sound innocuous, their actions speak volumes about their corporate sponsors' determination to halt PETA's lifesaving work. They include the following:
  • The American Legislative Exchange Council, an industry-supported lobbying group, works to pass "ag-gag" bills that aim to make investigations of factory farms—and in some cases, even laboratories—a crime. This summer, it worked to sidestep a governor's veto and, despite enormous public opposition, enact a hideous new "ag-gag" law in North Carolina—home to some of the largest chicken, turkey, and pig farms in the U.S.

  • The Center for Consumer Freedom, a deceptively named and financially motivated industry front group, is paid millions of dollars by companies such as Philip Morris—which has conducted tobacco tests by forcing animals to inhale cigarette smoke—to thwart PETA's work by using cheap frat-boy tactics.

  • The National Association for Biomedical Research, a scurrilous trade lobbying group, defends the special interests of companies that sell live animals for experiments and operate on and torment baby monkeys as well as manufacturers of decapitators, restraint chairs, and squeeze cages.
And that's just for starters!

It's hard to imagine how low a person has to go to defend cruelty such as purposely frightening baby monkeys to the point of self-mutilation and insanity in a U.S. National Institutes of Health laboratory. Yet for these lobbying groups and the well-funded industries and companies that support them, going on the offensive, attempting to scare the public away from even looking at the facts, and distorting the issues are ways of protecting their bottom line.

By donating only $5 or more online right now, you'll be helping to ensure more victories for animals, even against such determined opposition.

The animal-experimentation industry, meat industry, circus industry, skins trade, and other exploitative outfits stand to lose if PETA wins for animals—so they're working desperately to throw obstacles in our path. The best way to counter these heinous attacks is to strengthen our efforts and to demonstrate that no matter how hard animal abusers try, PETA will never rest from our work to make sure that animals have a chance to live free from abuse, confinement, neglect, and suffering.

Your generous gift to PETA will help ensure that our message of compassion for all animals remains front and center, even as these groups continue their baseless attacks.

Thank you for all that you do for animals.

Kind regards,

Ingrid E. Newkirk
President

P.S. We need to show our opponents that we will not relent until they stop the cruelty, suffering, and killing that fuel their businesses. Please make an urgently needed gift today to help PETA stand up to their challenges and save more animals' lives.
