Recently Microsoft Has Stunned Innovation

Creativity is what spurred the growth of the laptop or computer business and technology. Challenges were met and new frontiers conquered through sharp-edged innovations and competition. Sadly, over the years modest companies like Microsoft grew into giants and then lost their thirst for adventure.   They deliberately hid their proprietary source code and this stunted innovation. Like a drug peddlers they have developed a “Microsoft” addiction among pc users. And, then utilized the dependency to charge exorbitant prices.  

Since Microsoft does not think in promoting open source technologies even with intellectual property protection it hampers the quicker development of technologies and discourages others from even attempting improvements or changes. In blunt terms , Microsoft functions like the Chicago thugs did early this century. It maintains a strangle hold on PC users and sellers and creates strategies that prevent hardware manufacturers from using systems like Netscape.

Trend Micro: Koobface Abuses Google Reader

Trend Micro’s threat research revealed that Koobface botnet is abusing Google Reader by spamming URLS redirecting World wide web users to infected sites by means of Youtube.

Google Reader is a Google-owned free of charge service permitting users to monitor and share web sites for new content. Koobface has been spamming URLs on social networking websites like Facebook, Myspace and Twitter. Koobface is spamming Google Reader now. A Google account is made and controlled by Koobface gang, hosting a page with a fake YouTube video. As the victim clicks the fake video, it will redirect to a compromised website, which also hosts another fake YouTube video. The user will be infected and becomes part of the Koobface botnet. Attackers use Google Reader’s to share links and messages between users to host an image resembling a Flash video. When the user tries to view the video, it will redirect to a fake YouTube page containing a video. As in previous attacks, the user was soon prompted with an alert that invited them to upgrade their Flash player. Hidden was the reality that instead of the updated software, the user was downloading the Koobface downloader component that would that take over the victim’s personal computer.

Trend Micro, the IT security vendor, has reported Koobface to Google for spamming far more than 1300 known and unique fake Google Reader accounts. Nowadays, cybercriminals take advantage of Google due to the fact of its credibility that they hide malicious links behind Google Reader.
