Communicating ideas can extremely difficult sometimes.  I know. I work in a field full of complex visual idea that often need to be pitched and explained.

I often get notes from directors about how they want things to go.  Whenever they explain things verbally, things tend to take longer and trial and error happens a lot.  However, when the director simply sketches out what they want, it all becomes so much clearer.

But this isn't something limited to the animation industry.  This can be done in all industries and situations where ideas are important to convey.

More on this below. This is the third installment of how drawing can be useful and practical in everyday life.

There's a notion that there's only really two practical ways to use drawing.  One way is to draw as a profession (which includes designing, illustrations, animation, etc.)  The other way is to draw for expression and therapy.

Outside of those two things, most people don't really think drawing has any other practical application. It's limited, and therefore, if you don't have a need for drawing professionally or for health reasons, then drawing is of no use.

If you think this way, you'd be wrong.

Let me introduce you to Draw to Win: A Crash Course on How to Lead, Sell, and Innovate With Your Visual Mind by Dan Roam.
In this book Roam explains how drawing can do all the things the title says it can do.

But why does it work?

How is drawing so effective and how can it be used best to get an idea across? This is hands down, one of my favorite sections of the book.  Get ready to get your mind blown:

Yeah, pretty amazing right? There far more where that came from.
I highly recommend this book.  Draw to Win: A Crash Course on How to Lead, Sell, and Innovate With Your Visual Mind
