A MESSAGES FROM THE POP WARNER BOARD

To all past, current and future Pop Warner family and friends,

Cheer & football season is right around the corner and the Millstone Eagle’s Pop Warner team is asking for your help, and no, we are not asking for donations. We are looking for a few more 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 year old boys and girls for the 2015 football and cheer season.  We will be fielding teams at many levels this year and could use a few more boys and girls to help round out the football and cheer rosters.

If you are on the fence about allowing your son or daughter to participate please take a look below at a few of the common misconceptions about Pop Warner and if you still have questions please reach out to one of the Millstone Eagles Pop Warner Board members or coaches listed below!

Pop Warner Cheer & Football Myths:

Myth 1- Football is dangerous

Fact;  While there are risks associated with any activity, youth football is actually less dangerous than many other sports and activities (your child is much more likely to be injured riding a bicycle, skateboard or playing on the playground), and all Pop Warner coaches undergo rigorous  safety training and background checks including Heads Up Football training which is sponsored by the NFL and the Center for Disease Control (CDC)!  Pop Warner also adheres to a strict age/weight matrix to ensure kids play with others of similar age and size, which further reduces risk of injury.

Myth 2- I have to give up my entire summer

Fact- While practices do start in August they typically only run 3 or 4 days a week during the summer with Fridays and weekends off, and while Pop Warner has strict safety rules requiring conditioning before practicing in pads or participating in contact drills, there is ample time to meet these requirements even if you have a vacation planned.  Coaches are also aware that many young people have other commitments including religious education, academics as well as other sports, and they are very accommodating.  Reach out to a coach or board member to see how we can work around your schedule.

Myth 3- Pop Warner will interfere with my school work

Fact- Pop Warner emphasizes scholastic achievement and has a program called Little Scholars that is dedicated to supporting and enhancing academic performance.  Most student athletes actually perform better when they are participating in organized sports since it forces them to prioritize their work and better manage their time.  The number of practices per week are further reduced once school starts.  * Pop Warner has also awarded nearly 1 million dollars in college scholarships!

Myth 4- My son/daughter never played before, so they won’t be able to compete and probably won’t even play!

Fact- Pop Warner has participation rules that require each player to participate in a minimum number of plays per game, this way everyone feels like part of the team.  In addition to minimum play rules, most coaches use different schemes and techniques on both sides of the ball to put every player in a position where they can contribute and feel successful.

Myth 5- If I sign up now you have to pay a late fee

Anyone signing up now will be credited an amount equal to the late fee at the time of uniform pick up!

If you have any questions please reach out to one of our board members and or football coaches, and please feel free to forward this on to anyone else who might be interested!
